A turbo timer keeps the engine running for somewhere between 30 and 60 seconds. Some turbochargers can be damaged if they're shut off while they're still hot. If you have a car like this, the manufacturer will recommend that you let the engine idle before shutting it off. To save you from having to sit there every time you want to shut your car off, turbo timers were invented.

engine gets flogged so Turbo spools up / spins, as u take the foot of the gas the turbo is still spinning & requires oil feed at all times.

as u have been driving the turbo has been spinning all the time ( its just the wastegate that controls the boost pressure)

If u turn off ur engine without waiting 2 Min is or so for the turbo to spool down or slow down when the engine stops, the oil feed pressure stops, The turbo is still spinning at a great rate & eventually seizes up. The turbo timer just lets the engine run for 2, 5 or 10 Min is at idle with the keys out of the ignition.


So if u have a standard turbo just wait a few mins before shutting the engine down. If u have a aftermarket turbo then perhaps invest in a turbo timer.. Apexi timers r about $70AUD new .. loads on ebay

Alright turbo timers r very important to the life of ur turbo . Say u r reving u car up or u r coming from a long trip ur turbo is spinning very fast & then u just shut ur car off u r cutting the oil pressure that was going to ur turbo off meaning ur turbo is spinning very fast with no oil getting to it but with the turbo timer it brings ur car to idle slowing the turbo down. Number 1 cause of turbo failure is oil. But turbo timer r usually pretty cheap.

ok. it has nothing to do with how fast the turbo is spinning. it spins the same speed at idle no matter what.

a turbo timer helps the turbo last longer by LETTING IT COOL DOWN.

turbo is get HOT. when u drive hard they get hotter. so say ur in boost down the street, u pull into the driveway, if u shut it off right there the turbo is so hot that there is a risk that the oil inside the turbo gums up & turns solid. basically burns the oil. which causing oil flow problems ect.

so a turbo timer lets it cool for a minute, lets the turbo get back down to its normal/safe temperature.

its not complicated. it has nothing to do with oil pressure or turbo speed. come one guys.
