l would like to invest in a 1995 Mitsubishi 3000gt. It is sexy! But the dealer is asking $6,000 for it. Its old, its got a few rust spots, and it is got 15k miles on it. Even though it is not in the GREATEST condition.. is $6,000 a decent price for a 3000gt? It is beautiful. =]

It is beautiful?! It is got rust spots! Save your money. The car is old and does not sound like it has been taken care of.

Forget about what you want. First look at what is a smart deal. You will not be ''investing'' in that car. you will be throwing money at it. ''Investment'' implies there might be some kind of return.

what model is it
if it is a VR4 then its worth it,

if it is a base model u can find much cheaper ones around if u look hard enough
the Vr4s r becoming vary hard to find at a decent price these days if u plan on buying & fixing it correctly but not moding it for race then its a good investment

the vr4 can be noted on the back of the hatch say vr4
little side windows say twin turbo 24 valve all wheel drive

if the car is mint & untouched it should have a sticker in the front window by the VIN saying this car is equiped with all wheel drive & should only be towed on a flat bed
with pics on it

Note*** If it is a Vr4 the price for fixing simple items as brakes engine or trans or just about anything will be overly expensive***

the base model parts will not be as much but more than norm

l have been in the market for a 3000gt for some years now. l have looked at many on line & in person. first r u looking for a gt, gt sl, or the vr4. thay all have different horse power. so with that sead the milage on the car u r looking at is very low for the year, thats a good thing. also a few cosmetics is to be expected for the year. well that leaves u with the price range. l would do a kbb on the car & car fax as well. car fax would show u if its a one owner or not & the hitory of the car. so that would give u a better idea of what the car is worth. l will tell u l have come across very few 3000gts with that low miles. so l think the price is in a good range for what it is. l am currantly buying a 98 3000gt with 57k on it & the car looks like new for 4k. if u do ur home work l think u will find a great deal to. good luck.

Really, rust spots are not to hard to repair, even if you do not use bondo. If it only has 15k miles on it, why not drop another grand or so and get a new paint job? And, if the dealer is asking 6 grand for it, odds are they got it for about $3000, and the rust spots give you something to use for trying to get the price down. When l bought my used BMW, l pointed out the paint flaws, and got the price dropped quite a bit.

it is way over the price l wont pay more than 3000 for that car u can get a newer vr4 for that price

If it is rusting it is not been well taken care of & $6,000 is a lot for a naturally aspirated one. l kind of do not buy the ''has 15K miles'' because if it had 15K miles why would it have rust? Anyone who leaves their car exposed to the elements either does not care about it or they drive it alot & do not have a garage for it, nobody buys a car to put 1000 miles on it a year & leave it out in the rain the whole time. l think u mean it has 150K miles on it. If it has that much miles on it the 6G72 engine in it is bound to start eating ur loose change & possibly ur savings account.

Automatic or manual transmission? l would not reccomend an automatic (my mirage ate 3 of them!), but a manual transmission should last forever! Watch out for the 6-speed transmissions, they're not very hearty & parts r getting hard to find to fix them.

$6000 for a 3000gt with 15,000 miles. Even with a couple rust spots, that sounds like a very good deal & should run & drive like new. Get a carfax on it, just to be certain. l know how easy it is to roll back an odometer (did it on my 1995 Mirage is new gauges so it'd match up correctly)

My RX7 only had 90,000 miles on it, over the course of 20 years (it is a 1987). Sure, it has a little rust on it, no big deal though.

The price you got on the 3000gt is really cheap. A 3000gt price from a licsenced dealer for a 1993 model is $38000 dollars. Go for it. 3000gt is also rare to find so if you see one for slae, just buy it.
